Photo Hunt: What IS that?

This critter was on the side of our pool about a week ago. I've never seen anything like it. So of course I had to go grab the camera. It hung out there for quite some time. Anyone know what it's called?

Looks like a mayfly to me.

Here is a great website

http://whatsthatbug.com/

You can look at the mayflies here and decide for yourself

My favorite section is Unnecessary Carnage, where they feature squished bugs and the reasons they shouldn't have been squished.

Have fun! There are some truly beautiful pictures there, and lots of wit.

very cool shot - great detail!

I'm not entomologist... so can be of no help identifying though :)

Wow.... what an odd fellow he is with that long, long stuff coming out of his rear end. Amazing photo too. No idea from me what he is. Something to avoid.

This is the first time I see a mayfly. This is another lesson for me. Thanks for sharing.

A mayfly! We have them around here in NYS. They like the water-- I think the larvae hatches in the water. I did Photo Hunt, today, too. Come see and share your link with Mr. Linky.

That one would have made a great entry for 'pointed' a couple of weeks ago, too, with that tail.

Not only did you get a post out of it, but you found out what it was, too. Cool.
