Veteran's Memorial River Walk {19/365}

{19/365} January 19

It was pretty nice out today so we took a little stroll near this River Walk. They have signs along the way to commemorate a variety of wars.

Wisconsin Lighthouse {Kenosha Pierhead}

Here's the next lighthouse I've been promising. This one is in Kenosha, Wisconsin. And look at that another red picture! Only 3 in the past 4 days!

Milwaukee Lighthouses

Milwaukee Pierhead/Breakwater Lighthouses

I had another chance last week to photograph a few lighthouses. This time on Milwaukee's lakefront. This is the Milwaukee Pierhead Lighthouse with the Milwaukee Breakwater Lighthouse in the background.

Wisconsin Lighthouse {Algoma Pierhead}

Algoma Pierhead Lighthouse 1

Yes, it's June and I'm still posting lighthouse pics from my April trip. But this is my last set from then and I want to get them on here. I'm looking forward to the next time we can go find some more lighthouses!

I was playing around with the first image and solarized it. I really like the way it turned out.

Wisconsin Lighthouse {Rawley Point}

Rawley Point Lighthouse 1

Rawley Point Lighthouse is the 5th one we visited on our trip in April. It's located in the Point Beach State Park. The house on this one looked as if it was occupied. You were not able to go past a certain point and had to follow a path around it to get to the beach area.

How would you like to have this view in your backyard?

Wisconsin Lighthouse {Two Rivers}

Two Rivers Lighthouse

The 4th lighthouse we visited was the Two Rivers Lighthouse. This one surprised me a bit. It was like right in the middle of town and was on the bank of the river. I guess I just naturally think of a larger body of water when I think of a lighthouse.

Wisconsin Lighthouse {Manitowoc Breakwater}

Manitowoc Breakwater Lighthouse 1

Stop number 3 on the lighthouse tour takes us to Manitowoc, WI. I'm much happier with the way these turned out than the last two.

Wisconsin Lighthouse {Sheboygan Breakwater}

Sheboygan Breakwater Lighthouse

The second stop on our lighthouse tour was at the Sheboygan Breakwater lighthouse. Again we couldn't get very close. As you can see the water was really splashing up. So needless to say, I'm a little disappointed with the photos I got.

I'm freezing!

Here's my poor daughter, freezing! She's the one who claims she's never cold.

Wisconsin Lighthouse {Port Washington Breakwater}

Port Washington Breakwater Lighthouse

Here's the first of my lighthouse photos from our road trip last week. That first day the weather wasn't all that great and it prevented us from getting very close on a couple. This was one of them. It was so cold and windy that the water was very choppy and blowing up over the area you could walk out. None of us wanted to get soaked on top of being so cold!! This is the best shot I got of this one.

Wisconsin Lighthouse {North Point, Milwaukee}

I was flipping through a Wisconsin Recreation guide a couple weeks ago and there was a section on lighthouses. I thought it may be fun to try to find as many as I could and photograph them. There are a total of 35 listed, some are pretty far north and only accessible by boat so I'm not sure if I'll ever get to all of them, but it will be fun to see how many I can get to. I also found a website that lists lighthouses by state. Looks like there may be few more besides those listed in the book.

We visited the first one last week and have plans to get to some more over the next few months as the weather starts getting nicer. This is the North Point Lighthouse located in Milwaukee.

Lineman's Rodeo

The weekend before last they held Wisconsin's 2nd Annual Lineman's Rodeo in town. It's a competition between area Utility workers. This photo is from the opening ceremony. Each lineman climbed to their spot and then they passed the US Flag up and mounted it on the top of the pole. They then played the national anthem before beginning the competition. We only stayed a short time to see what was involved, take a few pics and check out some of the trucks. It was taking a while before any of the events started and the kids were getting restless and hungry.
